How to Become a Member

Following our bylaws, membership in Phoenix Community Garden is available to everybody. We pride ourselves on being a welcoming community. So thank you for your interest!

Here’s what you need to know:

  • The dues for 2025 are $30 for an individual and $40 for a family. You will be asked to sign a membership agreement, which you can find here

  • For 2025, the window for becoming a new member of the garden is from March 21 to May 22. Before becoming a new member, you must have volunteered at least three times for a total of eight hours. Beginning March 7, 2025, volunteer hours are Saturday from 11 to 3—weather permitting. More hours will be added as the season progresses.

  • The benefits of membership include getting a key to the garden so that you can come any time during daylight hours and the right to vote at our monthly membership meetings.

  • When you become a member, you become co-responsible with the rest of the membership to help maintain the entire garden, which includes tasks such as cleaning the sidewalk, weeding, keeping open hours, shoveling snow, helping with administration and communications. The work requirement for all members is eight hours a month from March through November.

Getting Your Own Plot

In order to get your own plot for planting, you must have completed a one-year apprenticeship. During the apprenticeship, you will work with the mentorship team to grow crops for our weekly farm stand. The apprenticeship program covers plant propagation in the greenhouse, preparing the soil, crop rotation, basics of bee-keeping, irrigation basics, harvesting, and more. After completing the mentorship, you are available to get a plot as available. To see the other guidelines, please review our Plot Assignment Agreement.
